Welcome to the Avril Elizabeth Home for the Mentally Handicapped.

We are celebrating Mandela Day!

The Avril Elizabeth Home will be celebrating Mandela Day on Tuesday, July 18th, 2017. This year we would like to honor the memory of Madiba by adhering to his call to make a difference in the lives of others. His love for children was always evident as he was often heard saying “Our children are our greatest treasure. They are our future. Those who abuse them tear at the fabric of our society and weaken our nation”.

Avril Elizabeth Home is thus taking action and inspiring change and we are inviting you to join in and to sponsor a day’s meals for one of our vulnerable, intellectually challenged children by making a donation of R67,00.

All donations qualify for a Section 18A receipt, which will enable you to claims donations’ tax benefits from SARS, if required. Should you wish to contribute, please be so kind as to mail us proof of payment, together with your name and postal address, for receipting purposes. Emails may be sent to aehome@mweb.co.za . For reference purposes, please use R67 and your surname when depositing your donation.

The Avril Elizabeth Home was officially opened in 1970 for the purpose of providing accommodation to six intellectually challenged children. Today we care for 147 permanent residents and 13 day care individuals. Many of our residents have been abandoned or orphaned resulting in no means of support whatsoever. These residents therefore rely on the goodwill of donors such as yourselves.

We take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your support of the very special residents in our care.

What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.
